Katie Filbert

I am a Washington, D.C.-based web developer & designer, specializing in custom map and geo-applications using open source software. I also do general web development with php / python (Django) development and other open source technology. I have particular interest in how open technology can help in areas of digital humanities, international development, government, and media.

In addition to taking on client projects, I am active in open source mapping, technology, and free-culture communities. Projects include OpenStreetMap, Wikipedia, CrisisCommons and FedFlix, along with hacking at the software behind these projects (e.g. PostGIS, Mapnik, MediaWiki).

Previously, I have done government contracting work for ~5 years, working with the National Institute of Justice and NOAA doing web development and supporting mapping / GIS programs.
